2006 January - Good News for the New Year

Greetings in the name of Jesus ~ our Anchor, our Hope and our Trust for all eternity!

The New Year has begun for many of us, and Dale and I are so happy to say that we have now moved to Hong Kong where we first met in 1964. We had anticipated moving here in 1976 following our Discipleship Training School. This was before the advent of King’s Kids International. Thirty years and a few rounds of mileage later ~ we are here, and you can well imagine the excitement in our hearts about this juncture in our lives!

I began my day this morning reading about someone else who had been waiting a very long time for a promise fulfilled:

“Are you really the Messiah we’ve been waiting for, or should we keep looking for someone else?” Matthew 11: 3

This was John the Baptist’s question as he heard from his prison cell of the miracles happening at the hand of the one called Jesus of Nazareth. As is true today, only sensational events make the headlines! We can thank our news anchors and media giants for that. But are we not also susceptible to wanting to report the sensational in order to make ourselves appear more significant? John the Baptist had heard of the blind being able to see again, lepers being cured, even the dead being raised to life! However, the most significant nuggets of truth are many times so gently inserted that we often miss the main point!

The New Year is upon us and all of us no doubt are praying for more evidence of the Holy Spirit’s power and authority in our lives and so we should. Jesus however, asked that John’s disciples take this report back to him in response to the question as to whether or not Jesus was the promised Messiah. In addition to the confirmation of the miraculous healings, he included three most important little words:

“and tell him, God blesses those who are not offended by me.”

I began this greeting in the name of Jesus our Anchor, our Hope and our Trust. My prayer for myself and for each of us is that we see ourselves in 2006 as newscasters, and that the Good News we represent be seen as trustworthy and full of hope because of the way we yield to Jesus to live His life in and through us. I pray that we will be those who search for the hidden news of the day to day miracles of being transformed into the likeness of Jesus.

May you grow in His loving Presence each day of this New Year.

Your friend,

Carol
