2005 September - And There was Bread
During the last few days, I have been spending time reading about Jesus' life amongst His disciples and I can't help but notice how often He uses the illustration of Bread as He speaks with them.
As believers, we are familiar with Jesus` statement that He is the Bread of Life. (John 6:35) As His followers, we know His desire is that we would have within us such life giving presence that the Kingdom of Heaven could be seen to be like yeast which gives the growth essential to the bread that can then be shared with others. (Luke 13:21)
But how then can this happen unless we are nourishing our own lives with His Word ~ the Bread of Life? It has been a prayer of Dale's and mine for many years now, that it would be said of those who interact with KKI, that, as with Jesus, comprehension of truth would come from the breaking of bread ~ the sharing of God's Word. Read the account of Jesus and the two disciples on the Road to Emmaus in Luke 24: 32 - 35 (and they recognized Him from the breaking of the bread).
If you happen to be going through a particularly discouraging time, possible a feeling of let down after an exhilarating outreach, I would encourage you to read and meditate more in God's Word, do it with others. Remember after the crucifiction when the disillusioned fisherman disciples went back to the routine of their lives, mending nets and casting for fish with meagre results, thinking that Jesus had abandonned them? That was the very time that Jesus returned among them having prepared a delicious breakfast on the beach. John 21 verse 9 in the New Living Translation says: " When they got there, they saw a charcoal fire was burning and fish were frying over it and...there was bread."
Always, because of Jesus,
Carol
