2005 January - Security Checks

Some Thoughts on Security Checks

Last week as I was returning from our family Christmas gathering in California, these thoughts concerning security screening in airports passed through my jet lagged head and I thought I would pass them on to you.

~ We all yield to them as inconvenient and sometimes humiliating as they are because we inherently understand that they are
for the greater good of us all.

~Tighter screening and more and more powerful means of scanning and searching are required in proportion to the increasingly devious means and methods of deceit vs. honesty

~ Interesting that we now must even remove our shoes

"Search me o God and know my heart, try me and know my anxious thoughts and see if there be any hurtful way in me and lead me in the everlasting way." Psalm 139: 23-24

How different in approach this perspective of David's is! I believe it's because he had learned to welcome and trust in the Lord's examination of his heart, knowing that the end result,( provided we yielded to the searchings) was for the greater benefit, not just of ourselves, but also for those with whom we associate. Heart searching ~ humbling, inconvenient, awkward, time consuming, sometimes embarrassing, but in the end comes relief and security, along with the gratification of close, honest and trusting relationships.

May our yielding to these inner searchings be a welcome, daily occurrence for each one of us in this New Year 2005
